Hi all,
Hope you had a fantastic Labor Day weekend!!
Saturday was garage sale day. I always have a fun time treasure hunting with my daughter on Saturday mornings.
This week, I found this cool antique mirror for only $2. Could not believe it, as I have paid much more in the past for these kinds of mirrors.
I had the perfect spot to hang it where it reflects my little chandelier and my DREAM sign which hangs over my bed.

Too Busy to Blog! Halloween Pics!

Hi all, and Happy Labor Day Weekend!
Here are some reasons I have not been blogging lately.
Halloween, Halloween and more Halloween.
Picking out new light fixtures. This is my new Pottery Barn lamp.
More new lights to come!! I had to reorder my new pendant lights, so it took me awhile to find some.
I had originally ordered mercury glass pendants, but they were out of stock everywhere, and they kept pushing the arrival date further back until it wouldn't be til Thanksgiving that they might arrive.
So I went on line and found a great Etsy shop called Lamp Goods. Look it up on Etsy!!!
Really great lights. I found them, ordered them and they should be arriving any day now.
This shop has really unique lamps with a vintage feel as well as some industrial chic lamps.
I am glittering scary crows right now, and making more Halloween flags.

Hi all,
Been too busy to blog lately, but I wanted to show you the cute old baskets I found over the weekend.
I went to a great little tag sale on Sunday and found these there. They were calling my name so I had to buy them. Not sure yet how or where I will be using them, but I'm sure I will think of something.
I also picked up a great chair that I'm going to redo as soon as I get the time.

New Garage Sale Find!

Hi all!
Went out on Saturday morning garage sales with my daughter.
This is my new find. It's what I like to call a sideboard/dresser. It was perfect just the way it was, and I didn't have to do a thing to it except clean it and line the drawers.
I'm using it in my dining room to store table clothes, napkins etc. I love the look and it's something new to me. I had a big white bookcase in this spot before and I was tired of that look. I really didn't know that I was tired of it until I found this piece. You know how that goes.
As usual I always give you the prices of my garage sale finds. The lady wanted $50 and I got it for $40. Pretty good for such a nice piece.

A Vintage Wedding!

Hi all!
Here is why I have been so busy lately. I was working on this amazing vintage wedding.
The bride and groom were lovely to work with, so sweet and in love.
Mary knew exactly what look she wanted to achieve and with help from me and others she got the wedding she was hoping for.
I made a lot of the pieces that you see in photos, but not until it's all put together do you see what the ideas really look like.
The venue was beautiful, the cupcakes from the Cupcakery Bakery were delicious and pretty!!
As you can see in the photos, everything was just beautiful!! The bride and groom were very happy!!
I was so glad to be asked to make these things happen and can't wait to do another wedding.
They are now off on a happy honeymoon!!

I wanted to do a quick post on my garden flea market finds.
I found this old galvanized bucket, old weather vane, and this cool wagon all at the same local flea market. Ventura to be exact!
I know you love prices so here goes. Bucket $10, weather vane $20, and wagon $25. I decided to plant some lavender and there you have it. Pretty and unique garden decor on a flea market budget!!

I have been so busy with no time to blog lately.
I wanted to show you some cute Easter pics of not so Baby Jake looking for Easter eggs last Sunday. He had such fun finding the eggs. Now I think he might look for eggs whenever he is in my backyard. We all know how fun that is.
He is such a big boy. He is running and talking and so smart for his age.

Can't believe he will be turning 2 in September.

Nests and Eggs

Hi all,
So sorry I haven't had any bloggy time lately.
Extremely busy!! Getting so many orders, can hardly keep up.
Easter, crowns and weddings keeping me on my toes for sure.
Hope you are enjoying Spring so far. We haven't had much Springtime weather yet.
Still kind of dreary and cool. Glad Easter is late this year.
I haven't even had the chance to get my backyard ready for Easter brunch yet. As soon as the sun warms it up and dries it out I will be ready to clean up winter and plant some new flowers.

Easter Baskets

Hi all,
Hope you had a nice weekend.
I was busy making Easter Baskets for the Agoura Antique Mart.
I can't believe that it's now Daylight Savings and Spring will be arriving this coming weekend, not to mention that St Patrick's Day is Thursday. Where does the time go?
I made the twig Easter baskets kind of like my twig crowns. They are a lot of work, but worth the effort. The small baskets are a lot of fun to make and are great to fill up with candy eggs, or one big dyed egg, or jelly beans. They make great place cards or favors for your Easter table.
Well I had better get back to work.

Getting Organized!!

For the last two days I have been cleaning, sorting and throwing away. I couldn't make another crown until this studio was reorganized. How do we get so many supplies, pieces of paper, ribbon and doodads?? Three giant trash bags later, I am happy to say I can start working again. Every drawer, shelf, cupboard, every nook and cranny have been dealt with. It's one of those projects we tend to put off but when it's finished we are so glad that we did it.
I need to start working on more twig crowns and I really hate to make a mess again, but that's the way it goes.
I hope you are planning a fun weekend. It's raining here and is suppose to rain all weekend. It's actually kind of nice for a change as we have had a very warm and sunny several weeks.

Twig Crazy!

Hi all,
Hope you have had a good week so far and are looking forward to the weekend.
I have been working on twig crowns and lampshades this week. I collect the twigs that fall on the ground from my birch tree. It's been really windy so no problem having enough twigs. These crowns and lampshades are time consuming, but so worth the effort. I call them my woodland crowns. They are putting me in the mood for Spring. I think it's right around the corner, as we already have a lot of plants and trees with blossoms.
When I picture going into the woods in a fairy tale these crowns are what I think of.
They are heading out to The Agoura Antique Mart tomorrow.

Happy Wednesday!
Just a little update. Got this cool wooden baguette/candle holder at the flea market last Sunday. Even though it was pouring rain, my friend Jen was selling, and I got this from her. I decided to try my mercury glass candle holders on it for fun. Still not sure exactly where its going, but I like it.
I'm working on these new nests and eggs for Spring. We have been having a lot of wind here lately and the branches on my birch tree just keep falling, so I pick them up and use them to make these nests.
I'm also redoing my hallway. I had a ton of photos up for many years, now it's time for a change. The walls are done, but the hard part is coming up with what I want to put up on the walls. I want it to be very different, not a lot of photos.
If you have any great hallway ideas, I would love to hear them.
If you come up with something I end up using, I will send you a prize. Maybe a nest from my very own birch branches. So get thinking girls.
Spread the word, I guess I just this minute decided to have a little giveaway.
Best idea wins!! Most of the main hall is one side of the wall. So you only have to come up with one side. The other side has a closet door and linen closets. As the hall turns the corner I already have an old window hanging there.
At the very end of the hall I have a pretty white dresser. The rest is a clean slate.
The wall I want to decorate is about 8 feet long, and 8 feet high.

Some Random Shots

Hi all!
Just some random Valentine shots around the house today.
Working like crazy to get everyone their orders for Valentine's Day.
We are having Spring like weather here in Southern California. I will try to send some warmth and sunshine your way. I know it's freezing and snowing in some parts of the country. It's in the 70's here today.
Looking forward to the weekend. Saturday I'm going to the CALM show in Santa Barbara. A really great antique show, and for a good cause. Google CALM Antique show.
Sunday it's off to the Ventura Flea Market. The first one in 3 or 4 months.
I will try to get some photos of both events this time. I have a bad habit of forgetting my camera when I'm excited about going to these fun places. Then I get there and realize my camera is in my studio.
My friend Kym owner of A Beautiful Mess Antiques will have a booth at the Santa Barbara show. Can't wait to see how she is presenting her wares. She has an amazing knack for design, merchandising, and decorating.
Plus who doesn't want to go to beautiful Santa Barbara California?

Crowns and Monograms

Hi all!
Hope you are having a nice week. We have been having a mini heatwave here.
Crazy!!
I have been busy working on more and more Valentine projects.
These are a few of my new crowns and monograms.
I don't know how you all keep up with the projects, house stuff, and blogging.
It's a balance that I sometimes don't have lately. The blogging comes last when I'm in the project mode.
I have been getting busier and busier with orders which great. That leaves me with less time to blog and visit blogs. I'm always thinking about you though.

More Hearts!

In case you were wondering, I'm still here making hearts. I have been making hearts all week long, and I'm still not done. It's kind of disheartening. Not really, just busy with the Valentines. I still have more to go, and some custom crowns as well.
If I'm not visiting you and your lovely blogs, that is why.
The weather has finally warmed up a bit here, and the sun is shining bright which makes for some beautiful natural light to work in.
I hope you all have some fantastic weekend plans. I will be here finishing up these hearts and trying to deliver all of them.
Baby Jake update, he is walking, and talking and giving great hugs these days. He has a hilarious personality!! He will be 16 months old next week. Amazing how the time flies by.

Hearts Desire!

Hi all!
Hope you are having a good week. I have been busy at work on these new Valentine Hearts!! They will be going to the Agoura Antique Mart soon, so I wanted you to see them before they left home. Each one takes some time, but the end results are again worth it. I wanted to go for a more natural look than the typical red and pink hearts.
As in the previous post, I'm still trying to figure out how to get my favorite places list back as it disappeared this morning. If anyone knows how to do that, please let me know. I guess for now my favorite places are floating around somewhere.

Starting the Hearts!

Hi all and Happy New Year!
It's all about the hearts now. It's full speed ahead on the Valentine creating.
This is a tiny sneak peek at what I'm working on.
The holidays were fun, but I'm glad it's back to normal. All the decorations are put away, the lights are down, and the house is decorated for winter. Next will be the Valentine decorations. That is a much easier and simpler project.

It's quite cold for Southern California, and we even had a freak snow storm yesterday, so I'm very happy to be in the studio working. That is after my morning walk. I guess I need to bundle up and get out there.

Handmade Bows!

Paper Decorations

Hi all!
Hope you are having a good week so far.
I have been working on some paper decorations. All you need are some old book pages, glue, scissors, glitter, seam binding, and some time. The last one is the hardest, as I haven't had much time lately. I'm finally getting done with my shopping, now everything has to be wrapped. I'm finding that stocking stuffers are the most difficult this year. I like to try to find interesting and unique items. I have to fill 5 stockings. Somehow my daughter has 2 stockings. She has since she was a baby, so the tradition continues. She loves it!! Who wouldn't?
It's all fun just the same. I need to make a call to Santa, maybe he can help me out.
I have been the worst blogger lately, but I'm sure you are all very busy this time of year.
We had a tiny heatwave, and thank goodness it's now over. It's back to the regularly scheduled weather for Christmas.

Christmas Tree

Hi all!
We got our tree yesterday, and I love it! I think it's my favorite of all time.
We barely looked at any trees, and as soon as I saw this one, I knew it was for me.
We buy our tree from the high school baseball team lot. The money goes to the high school team. The boys deliver it to your house which means no needles in or on your car.
I spent the afternoon decorating it, and the house. Here are a few glimpses for you. My colors are neutrals and silvers for my living and dining rooms. Reds in my kitchen and family room. Which I will leave for another post.

Burlap Tree

Hi all!!
Just wanted to show you what I have been working on lately.
This burlap tree, although took many hours of work, I think the look was worth it.
I have been making a lot of Christmas items for the shops, but to be honest I forgot to take photos before they left my house. I normally always photograph my stuff, but for some crazy reason (like they had to be done yesterday) I forgot.

Pre Mess

Hi all!
Hope you had a fantastic Thanksgiving. We had a great time. A lot of good food and good family!!
These are some photos of the pre dinnertime. After, not as pretty!!
Now everything is cleaned, put away, and the house is getting ready for Christmas.
We have the lights up outside, and the decorations have been brought in. I just need a tree and time to decorate.
Of course there are always a few glitches. I decided we needed some new reindeer for outside as ours were getting very old and worn out. We went out and bought 2 new ones, my husband spent a very long time putting up lights, putting together the new reindeer, only to find out the big one does not work. We checked all possible reasons, but it's a defective one.
So off the the Do It Center where we bought it to get another one. We will see how this one goes.
We have been having very cold weather for Southern California. Yay!! It makes it feel like Christmas.

Getting Ready for Turkey Day!

Hi all!!!
Missed all of you! I'm finally out from under a mountain of glitter.
I'm now getting ready for Thanksgiving!! I'm hosting the big day!! I started decorating today and wanted to snap a few photos for you to see.
I'm using a piece of burlap for my table. It makes a great tablecloth. It's inexpensive and after the big day, you can cut it up to make other things. This is the first time I will be using my new farm table.
For my centerpiece I lined an old galvanized tub with some burlap, added some corn, gourds and a beautiful pumpkin that I purchased at the barn sale back in October.
I will be adding some flowers on Wednesday. So far I'm really liking it. I redid my fireplace today too!! I have been wanting to do that for awhile now. Just haven't had the time. Pretty soon it will be time to redo it again for Christmas!!

Hi all!
Can't believe I haven't blogged in 15 days!!!
I have been busier than ever before. I have been working non stop on orders.
I'm also hosting house guests and Thanksgiving dinner. If you have been wondering where I am, I'm in my studio still under a giant pile of glitter.
We are also getting ready to have baby Jake overnight for the first time this weekend. He will be 14 months old on Sunday. Where has that time gone?

Turkey Day On The Way

Hooked on Healdsburg Houses

Hi all!!
Back from a whirlwind vacation to Northern California!!
My husband and I traveled to Northern California for a little anniversary trip.
That is why I have been MIA from the blogs.
We had a wonderful time visiting family, and visiting new friends.
I will do another post about wine country soon.
This post is dedicated to all things fun and spooky.
I have been visiting Tracie's blog for quite some time now. We enjoy the same kinds of French flea market items, foods, movies, and all things spooky. So why not get together for the first time and go on a Sonoma Ghost tour. Our husbands were on board too. The first night we got up to the town Tracie lives in, we walked around the cutest town square, and took a short walk to meet Tracie and her husband Shane for dinner. Tracie and I hit it off right away and couldn't stop chatting long enough to even look at the menu. We are two peas in a pod for sure. Our husband's enjoyed chatting as well. We had a lovely meal together, and planned for the next day.
I had previously arranged a tour with Carla Heine of Sonoma Ghost Tours. You see, my husband and I like to watch Samantha Brown on the Travel Channel. We saw her take the tour and I was hooked. I told Tracie about it, and she is like me, we love spooky stuff, and Halloween. So we were to meet Carla in front of the Sonoma City Hall for our late afternoon tour. The city hall built in the 1800's was amazing.
In the photos, you see a few of the haunted places we visited. The big white house was a sea captain's home complete with the widows walk. Just like in The Ghost and Mrs. Muir. The no trespassing signs you see are on an old house that has been boarded up since the 1940's. Amazing, and spooky. Apparently the contents is all inside, right down to the china and silverware.
As you can see, from the photos, Tracie and I with Carla our tour guide. Tracie blond, me not blond. Carla in the middle, has lived in Sonoma her entire life and knows it and the history so well. If you ever get a chance take the tour. Just google Sonoma ghosts!

After the 2 hour tour, we all had a wonderful dinner together.
Tracie and I hope to get together sometime again in the future. Meanwhile we will have to email and visit each others blogs.

Christmas Already?

Hi all! Hope you are having a nice week.
I saw my first Christmas commercial last night. Can't they wait until my favorite fall holidays are over? Guess not! I love Halloween, and Thanksgiving of course. I hate the way they just skip right over Thanksgiving. Not a thing I can do about it, just thought I would vent for a second.
Anyway, this birdcage is my purchase from the Rose Bowl this past Sunday. We were having a mini heatwave, and it was one of my only purchases that day. I was just too hot to enjoy it. I did have a frozen lemonade that was refreshing and delicious.
Not sure yet what I am going to do with this cage, but probably not using it for a bird. I will have to incorporate it into my decorating some way. Maybe Christmas decorating. Speaking of Christmas, I already had a request for a Christmas crown, and this is what I came up with. So I guess I'm technically in Christmas mode in October.
Now, back to Halloween, I'm in the mood for some scary fun so next week I'm going on a ghost tour. I will tell you all about it after.

Before and After Hutch/China Cupboard

Hi all!!
Hope you had a nice weekend. Last Monday we had a record high, and this morning we have light rain, and cool temps. Yay for Fall!!
Last Sunday I was walking at the Ventura Flea Market, and I stopped in my tracks when I saw this beautiful French hutch. My first reaction was it's probably already sold, as sometimes things are.
I asked the lady if it was still for sale and much to my surprise it was.
It took some convincing my husband that I really wanted it, and even though it was a pain to get into my suv, I really wanted to get it.
We talked about how I was so tired of the one we had, and this one would go way better with my new farm table etc, etc. The old one is not an antique, and was a hand me down, that I painted. It served it's purpose for a very long time. So the white one is the before, and the wood one is the after.
I had so much cleaning out to do to get my things arranged in the new one, but again worth it. The old one has a new home at my daughter's house, her hutch was smaller, and this one will give her more storage room.
By the way, the pretty pumpkin came from my trip to Nipomo and the Remnants of the Past show this past Saturday. If you want to see pictures, google Remnants of the Past in Nipomo. It was so crowded and busy, that I did not take any photos this time.
Well, I'm off to go make some chicken wire crowns, and admire my new hutch.

PS, what does it mean when you lose some followers?? Does it mean you don't post enough, or visit enough, or you are boring? Not sure, but I have lost a few lately.
So sorry, but I have been extremely busy with tons of orders, which is great! It doesn't leave me a lot of extra time to visit and leave comments, but I try. I really enjoy all of the blogs out there, and who doesn't love leaving a comment?
It's fun!! Anyway I apologize to those people who don't understand that making art takes ups a lot of time, and I am super detailed with what I make.

Baby Jake's First Birthday or Pumpkin Extravaganza

Hi all, hope you had a nice weekend.
We had baby Jake's first birthday party. It was a big hit except for the blazing hot weather, which always seems to happen when this family throws a party. Jake had a good time, and wasn't too overwhelmed with all of the people being there. He loved his cake!!!
My daughter and I worked very hard to make this a fun, and over the top party.
The party was held in my daughter's backyard, and it was a group effort to get that pumpkin patch put together. My husband put all of those hay bales in place for us so that we could get the pumpkin patch together the day before the party.
All of the little ones who attended Jake's party didn't really mind the heat. They just enjoyed the party and the pumpkin patch.
We have already started discussing ideas for Jake's second birthday. I know, we are crazy, but it's a lot of fun.

Creating Halloween

Hi all, and Happy almost the weekend!
I have had a lot of requests to show my Halloween decorations this week. These are just some of them. They are going to a new shop tomorrow. If you ever see anything you would want, don't hesitate to email me with the request. I can make it special just for you.
The skulls are hand glittered by me, and all of the details are what takes up the time. I am really into the details, and I'm sure the photos don't show every little thing. I also made some pink masks and skulls for the cupcake shop. Not your normal Halloween colors. I don't use much orange either, a lot of people like the creams, grays, blacks and whites. I had to sneak in a few orange things here and there.
I had so much making the little hats for the skulls. It's a lot of gluing, folding and glittering. My studio is a mess, and looks like Halloween exploded in there. Just a few more things and I will be ready for deliveries tomorrow.
I hope you have a fun weekend planned. We are going to the pumpkin farm to pick out pumpkins for baby Jake's first birthday party happening a week from Saturday. His actual birthday is this coming Tuesday the first day of Fall. Hard to believe a year has gone by that quickly. He is so cute, and has such a fun personality. The Writing On The Chalkboard

Hi all!
I haven't been blogging or visiting much lately because I have been under a giant pile of glitter. Working on Halloween non stop. I have some big orders to fill, and I'm trying to get it all done by Friday.
I just wanted to show you this amazing chalkboard I recently found on one of my Saturday morning garage sale expiditions with my daughter Amanda. We go out nearly every Saturday in search of treasure. Sometimes we find it and sometimes not, but this time it was this giant chalkboard. It was already framed in this lovely shade of gray. Amanda kind of coaxed me into getting it, because I thought it was so big, where would it go? Well this is it's new home, and it's fun to write on such a big space. My little statue holds my eraser for me, and I have to vaccuum up chalk dust, but that's OK with me. I have a few smaller chalkboards around the house, but nothing as fun as this one.
Oh yeah, I know you girls love to know the garage sale prices, this was $20. I think that was a great deal considering it is so large and the lady had paid a lot more at a fufu shop.

Just A Hint Of Fall

Hope you had a nice holiday weekend.
Busy as usual here. I started pulling out some fall things yesterday, and decided to do just a tiny bit of decorating. I don't want to go too crazy yet. I have so much Halloween decorating to do in the coming weeks, that I thought I would put out just a hint of Fall. It's a dark gloomy day here, so it's a perfect prelude to Fall. I know Fall doesn't officially start yet, but it's started for me.
I'm in my studio today working on some Halloween crowns, masks, and skulls. All glittery and pretty, not too scary.
I keep thinking that today is Monday, but it's already Tuesday which puts me behind schedule for the week.

Christmas?

Not really, I haven't even finished making my Halloween stuff yet. I got sidetracked.
I found a small Christmas tree last week at a garage sale for $2. It was one of those plain little green ones with a wooden base painted in a cream. I thought about my burlap obsession and covered it. I covered the base in vintage sheet music, then antiqued it. I did not take a before shot, because I am always so excited to start a project that I forget to do that. I like the way it turned out, and I will be hanging small vintage ornaments from it as well as old keys! When it gets close to Christmas I'm sure I will take some photos of it all decorated and share with you.
Now back to our regular scheduled Halloween program.

Jars of Fun

Happy Tuesday!
I have been making these old mason jars into creative pieces of art lately.
They are really fun to make, and look cute hanging on a doorknob or hook.
You just need an old mason jar and some creativity. You can't tell, but I hang all kinds of odds and ends from the sides of the jars which give them a final touch.
My favorite is the trick or treat girl. You know it's 2 months exactly til Halloween. If you have an old jar, old photos, odds and ends, try making a jar.
They also look cute strung side by side.

Packed Up And Ready To Go

Not me, these pretty in pink party things for the cupcake store, Cupcakery Bakery and Boutique in lovely Thousand Oaks California. In all actuality, I delivered them yesterday, but just got around to doing this blog post. Trying to be funny I guess.
Also this side view of a black, gray and cream crown is for someone and you know who you are. It's just a bit of a tease for her, as she will not see the front until she opens the box. This crown will be leaving my house tomorrow, it's taking a short trip up state.
Guess what happened today? The most amazing and fun thing.
You have all heard me talk about my friend Jean in Rhode Island, well we have emailed back and forth everyday for the last several years. We met because somehow she found my blog and wanted a crown. Then we became fast friends. We have a lot in common and the rest is history. Anyway last week she asked of I would make her a few items for an upcoming birthday in her family, so I did, and she received the package today. Well instead of emailing me like we always do, my phone rings, and it's Jean on the other end. Well big deal you say. Yes it is, you see it's the first time we have ever talked to each other on the phone, and we didn't know what we each sounded like.
Isn't that weird? You get some idea in your head, but you never know what someone will sound like or look like for that matter. She has seen pictures of me, but I have no idea what she looks like, because she is a girl, who says she doesn't take a good picture. One of those girls. I have conjured up a pretty picture of her in my head though. I think I will see what she looks like when we meet in person someday.
OK, so I'm rambling today, forgive me for that, but it was all very exciting for me.

A Fireplace Makeover

Happy Sunday!
Hope you are having a great weekend.
I spent yesterday at the new home of our friends, they just moved into a big beautiful new home on a golf course with an amazing view.
They decided that their fireplace looked too bland. It actually was all beige, the whole entire thing. They asked me if I could faux paint it to look more like stone, and to give a warmer feel to the room. So I got out my paints and glazes and went to work. It took me about 4 hours to get this look.
They loved the way it turned out, and it was just the look they wanted. They are very pleased with the outcome, and so am I. I had a lot of fun painting, and they made me a fantastic lunch, which we had out on their new patio. We ate, and watched the golfers, bunnies and lizards.
They were very surprised that you could get a look like this just using some paints and glazes. I was a bit nervous, as I have never painted for anyone but myself and my daughter. I always say that it's just paint, and if you don't like it, paint over it. That was not the case, they loved it, and really appreciated my creativity.
I don't have a before picture but, it was big, beige,and boring, until I got my little hands on it.

An Unexpected Gift!

Hi all!!
Hope you are having a good week.
My back and neck are starting to feel better so that is a good thing.
I got an unexpected package in the mail yesterday from my friend Jean in Rhode Island. Jean went to Brimfield a couple of weeks back, and look what she got for me.
Surprise, a really pretty crown cast out of cement. I think it's awesome!! I love it!
Thank you Jean, you are such a thoughtful friend.
Jean told me in the note, that now I have something from Brimfield. I hope to get there sometime and check it out for myself.
Aren't unexpected presents fun? Along with this crown, I also got two tiny tiles with my initials on them, and 2 pair of vintage rhinestone earrings which I use in my crown making. Now if I could just get Jean on a plane to California for a visit, I would take her to the Rose Bowl. One of us needs to get on a plane, and we both hate to fly. Maybe a train!!

Hi all!
As you can see I have a Halloween counter on my sidebar. I love all things creepy and Halloweeny!
Last year I glittered some skulls for Halloween. This year I decided they need some top hats. I made a sample for my raven Crowy Poe! I couldn't find any to embellish, so I made this one from scratch. I'm getting ready to start making my Halloween items next week. I wanted to get in the mood, so I added this creepy little song to my blog.
Somehow I got hooked on the show Pretty Little Liars on the Family channel this summer. (I'm a big kid at heart), oh and I still think I'm a teenager, because I love teenager shows. This creepy little song is the theme song for the show. It's a murder mystery of sorts. If you listen to the words it's the perfect Halloween, spooky song.
It's hard not to be in Fall mode already, when my daughter is planning baby Jake's first birthday party in September. Can you believe he will be a year old in 2 short months?? Where did that time go? Of course I'm helping make some fun things for the party.

Sweet!

Hi all!
Hope you had a great weekend!!
The weather in Southern California has been rather cool for the end of July, but we know it will heat up again soon.
It was actually drizzling this morning on my walk.
I'm busy as usual, making cupcake boxes, crowns, party hats, cards etc.
Thought I would show you two cupcakes I made today. They are very sweet, but very low in fat and sugar, plus no baking involved.
More goodies for the Cupcakery.
Have you noticed how many cupcake, and cake shows there are on TV these days?
I really enjoy watching the decorating, but it really makes me nervous when I see all of the work that goes into these cakes and they have such a long drive to make the delivery. I know I could not do that job.

Cupcakery Bakery!

Hi all!!
Hope you are having a good week so far.
I have been working on these crowns and boxes for the Cupcakery Bakery and Boutique.
They have the most yummy cupcakes, and they have a little boutique where my party hats, crowns, banners and boxes are for sale. They have been in my town for a year and a half now, and they do a great business. The mother daughter team are not only two of the sweetest (no pun intended) girls I know, but they make the most wonderful cupcakes. They use only the finest ingredients, nothing artificial. That is what makes them so good. They also make all of the decorations for the cupcakes by hand, and all decorations are edible. They not only taste great, but they look beautiful as well.

Crowns, Crowns, and More Crowns!

Hi all!
Can't believe it's Thursday already.
I'm still here!!! I have been busy working on crowns as you can see.
I had more requests for Mother Nature, and even a New York themed crown.
Right now I am in my studio working on an all encrusted in German glass glitter crown. I still have some birthday crowns to make, some lamp shades and cake boxes, so If I'm not commenting on your blogs you will know why. I do visit, but don't always have time to comment.
I love each and every one of your blogs as well as you!!
It's all of a sudden blazing hot here in Southern California. We finally got summer with a bang!!

Just got back from some R&R at this place. Hope you like the photos Jean!!
Had a nice few days off here at the Rancho Bernardo Inn near San Diego!
Now I'm back home doing the laundry and catching up.

Mother Nature!

Remember that commercial, It's Not Nice to fool Mother Nature? I think it was a butter commercial. If you are young, you probably don't remember. Anyway, here are some Mother Nature crowns I have been making this week. It all started because a lady came into the shop where my crowns are sold. She wanted to know if I would make her a Mother Nature crown for Halloween. (Halloween is right around the corner)
She is going to dress up as Mother Nature. I made one for her, then others wanted them as well. See, you never know what might happen in the crown making business.
The crowns are backed up and waiting to be made. They now have to wait until next week. I will be on a little getaway, so if I don't visit you for a couple of days you will know why.

We had a fun day, with a lot of good food, nice company, and extremely cool weather for the 4TH. The clouds and fog did lift by mid day, and we did get to see the fireworks.

It's Almost The 4TH

Hi all!!
Seems like it was just the 4TH of July. How time flies when you are having fun.
My friend Jean in Rhode Island is starting her decorating for the 4TH, so I decided to take a few shots of my decorations so far. Haven't done it all yet, but this is a start.
I am starting out the week, one busy crown maker. I have a lot of orders to get done as well as hosting the 4TH. A lot to do and on top of that I have laryngitis, and a cough. What the heck is that about in the summer?
The last photo is of my yard sale find this past Saturday, in fact it was my only yard sale find of the weekend. Sometimes you know how it is, just not a lot out there. Anyway I do love this rustic red bird house, and the price was right at $3.
Thanks for all the sweet comments about the magazine. You bloggers are the best!!

My Dream French Farm Table!

Hi all!
Hope you are having a fab Sunday!!
Got up early Saturday morning to go to garage sales with my daughter Amanda!
She has got the garage sale bug as do I.
It was one of those really good days, where there was more good stuff than bad. A lot less exercise equipment, and more cool stuff!
We found a lot of great little items along the way. Amanda picked up a beautiful park bench for her backyard for only $10. I got an old bottle carrier, old books, crystal and silver candy dish all for $6.50. Then we came across this great buffet/sofa table. It matches some of my other pieces, and it was only $40. I called my husband and he whined a tiny bit, but he came an picked it up for me. Amanda's car was already loaded with stuff plus a car seat.
A few more sales, more fun stuff, then the mother lode!!
This great French farm table of my dreams. I have been wanting one for a really long time. It had to be the right one at the right price of course. Amanda said I had better get it, so we walked around to the other side of the table to see the price. I was thinking it was going to be an outrageous price for such a cool table. Not really, it was only $150!! Yay!! Now the thing is pretty huge, and other people were looking it at, but Amanda said you are getting it, and she stood guard while again I called my husband to the rescue. He was really great about it. I told him it was just what I had been wanting. Luckily the top came off so it was a bit easier to fit into our SUV. It was an interesting ride home. Had to leave the back open a bit because the table stuck out of the back. Our warning the door is open bell beeped all the way home. Needless to say it was a long 10 minute ride.
The table I had is a white chippy one with 2 leaves. It now belongs to Amanda. See we trade around a lot. She had a smaller white table which will now go to Craigslist. The sofa table I had before was an old window made into a table which is now on Craigslist.
It was a fun weekend, and big news baby Jake is officially crawling.

Hi all, and Happy Thursday!! One day closer to the weekend. This week is flying by.
Here are a few pictures of what I have been working on, plus my pretty hydrangeas!!
Remember my chair that got covered with a drop cloth? Well, here is a lamp I covered with some leftover fabric. I think it's cool!!
My friend at the shop Sticks N Stones asked me to cover a lampshade using of all things this open weave burlap. It's normally used around bottoms of trees and shrubs, and for gardening purposes. It comes in a roll from the hardware store. So I tried it and I think I like the results.
Who knows what else you can use it for, but I like repurposing, don't you?
Here is a little tease about next week, a giveaway is in the works, as well as some other surprises, so stay tuned.

Hot N' Cold, In N' Out, Up N' Down, Before N' After

Hi all, hope you had a nice weekend!
The title of my blog post says it all. I bought this lamp about a year and a half ago. For awhile I thought the old faded shades were kind of cool. Not anymore. So I had to do something about it. The lamp is old and has pretty pearls hanging from it. It looks quite French. The original shades were stripes, but very faded.
Here is a list of things that I did for this project.
I dyed some muslin in coffee and let it dry. I took one of the shades and traced the outline on paper to make a pattern for the new shades. When the muslin was dry I stamped on it with a large background stamp. Then I traced the pattern onto the fabric, and cut it out. I sprayed glue onto the shade and wrapped it in the muslin.
Let that dry, and trimmed them in crinkled ribbon. Now the shades are much more to my liking. They look more updated, and go with my ever changing decor.
Spray glue is a bit tricky, and doesn't smell very nice, so if you try this make sure to do the gluing outdoors.
Today turned into an impromptu project just for me.
Now it's back to my regular scheduled projects for others. Lamp shades and crown orders to take care of.

Fun Finds!

Hi all!
As promised in the previous post, here are a few recent flea market and garage sale finds. The fabulous window came from a garage sale last Saturday.
The window was $20, and I hung it in my guestroom. The two feed sack pillows came from the Rose Bowl. As you know, I went there on Mother's Day. $65 for both, not bad.
The mirror also came from the Rose Bowl Mother's Day outing, $15. The little old black scale, recent garage sale $5, and the tiny little silver pitcher garage sale
.50cents.
Most Saturdays I'm out there treasure hunting with my daughter. It ends up that she loves the garage sales as much as I do. It's our little Saturday morning thing. This coming Saturday is her birthday, so let's hope she finds some great stuff.

More Shade!

Hi all! Hope you had a great weekend!
Talk about shade, it's so gloomy, dreary, and cold today here is Sunny California.
It's very cold for May, and we are expecting some rain. Great for the flowers!!
I have been working on more lampshades as you can see. Just thought I would take a little break to say hello, and show you what I have been working on.
Now that the shades are done, I am starting on some birthday crowns for the Cupcakery Bakery.
Had a fun weekend, out to dinner with friends on Friday night, babysitting baby Jake Saturday night, and dinner with the family on Sunday night.
Did anyone see the Survivor, and Desperate Housewives finales? (Interesting)

Shades!

Happy Thursday all! Hope you have had a nice week.
I have been busy as usual. I wanted to show you a couple of lampshades I was working on this week. One is all wrapped in burlap, and the other one is done in crinkled ribbon. It takes some time and effort but the results are worth it. They are headed out to Sticks N Stones, as is this special order cross. I had a lot of fun embellishing and making this very girly.
Thanks for all of the nice comments on my new drop cloth chair. I am enjoying the way it looks and feels.
My back is feeling a lot better. My rib was out of place. I'm happy to report that after my chiropractor put it back where it belongs it's staying there so far.

Hi all, hope you had a fabulous Mother's Day!
We did here!
Here is the big reveal of my chair makeover. I love the way it turned out.
Who knew a painters drop cloth could look so good. As you can see, I got a pillow done to match. My slipcover lady did a fantastic job, as well as getting the job done quite fast. I think the look is so fresh and summery!
Our trek to the Rose Bowl yesterday was really fun too! I got the 2 grain sack pillows in the photos, and this really cool antique pleating/ruffling machine. It still works, and I will use it to pleat paper, and ribbon for my crown making. It also looks cool. I was told this is how they pleated and ruffled shirt collars in the old days.
I wanted to show you the beautiful color on these roses I received from my daughter, son in law, and baby Jake yesterday!
My week is starting out busy as usual, with lampshade making and embellishing three crosses for someone. I'm also working on some stamped silverware. First on the agenda is a trip to the chiropractor this afternoon. My back is out!!! This is a periodic occurrence for me. Once it's back in place, I'm good to go. I have a slight curve to my spine, and this tends to throw things out of whack sometimes. Goes with my wacky personality!

Remember This Chair?

Hi all! Hope you had a great week. It's almost Friday again. Yay for that, and Mother's Day too!
Do you remember this chair that I bought at the Paris Flea Market in Carpinteria? It was June 08. How time flies when you are having fun. Anyway, this chair is out of the house right now. It went to the slipcover ladie's workshop. It will come home next week with a new cover. Can't wait to see that, because you will never guess what I am having it covered with. Give up? A giant drop cloth from Home Depot. That's right ladies, a $30 drop cloth. I searched for several months for the right fabric. I wanted just the right linen, but I never found what I really wanted. Not even online, which is really hard anyway considering your really can't feel the fabric that you are buying.
Then I talked to my friend Diane, and she said what about a drop cloth? I remembered seeing that done on one of the HGTV decorating shows. So I thought why not. I washed it twice, in a ton of fabric softner, then gave it to the slipcover lady. Can't wait to see the results. She thought it was a great idea! I didn't have to spend a fortune on the fabric. So you will see it as soon as I do.
I like the red and white stripes, but I wanted to be able to switch it up, like now when summer is coming. I think the red and white is nice for winter. The drop cloth is kind of an off white oatmeal color, which is what I wanted anyway.
Maybe by the end of next we will all see the new chair.

Garden Views

Hello all, and happy Sunday!
Hope you are having a wonderful weekend.
I had to take some photos of my Cecile Bruner roses. I don't know if you remember a couple of years back, I bought a tiny little rose bush called a Cecile Bruner. I special ordered it, planted it, and the first year or so, it only got a few roses, and wasn't growing too fast. This year however, it's a different story, as you can see it's starting to drape it's way over the trellis. I'm very excited about this. These roses are a pretty pink, with a soft fragrance. They looks so sweet in a bud vase.
A couple of other shots of my garden that I thought looked pretty today too!
I also wanted to show you what I did with the rusty bucket I bought last week at the flea market. I hooked it onto the side of my wagon with a pot of double impatiens.
It's lovely weather here in Southern California today. Perfect for gardening!

The Goods!

As promised, here are my treasures that I brought back from Remnants of the Past, and the Ventura Flea Market last weekend.
This rusty bucket will soon house some pretty flowers. The butcher block is getting used to being in my kitchen, or should I say my husband and I are getting used to it being in the kitchen. I have always wanted some type of an island in my kitchen. My husband always tells me there is no room, so when I spied this small sized block, he couldn't say no. I think it makes the kitchen more cozy, plus an extra work space or spot for something pretty.
Check out the 2 wire baskets, one was $30 the other $2 crazy I know.
I love the apothecary bottle that I bought from Heather. I found an antique label on etsy that I am going to put on it. The mirror is going to be hung in my family room.
The wooden dough bowl that I bought from my friend Jennifer Grey, will be cleaned out and maybe will hold fruit. Not sure yet what I'm doing with all of it, but it's fun stuff. I love decorating with these things, as I know you do.

Remnants Of The Past!

That is the name of the awesome antique show/sale in Nipomo California. I spent the day there today, and it's always amazing. The photos don't do it justice. These are just some of the scenes outdoors. There is a whole giant inside the barn part too. It's pretty dark and crowded inside, so no photos of that.
Everyone brings their best, prettiest, unique, and expensive stuff. There are many designers shopping, as well as us ladies who love to shop. There are a few men shopping as well. What are we shopping for? Well, there is something for everyone. Things to decorate with, things to collect, even plants, flowers, and sweet treats.
Sue Whitney was there the founder of Junkmarket. She had her book for sale, and of course I bought one for her to sign. It's all about finding junk, and what to do with great flea market junk, and junk in general once you get it home. Later in the afternoon she was holding a class on making a fairy garden. I did not stay for that, as we had a very long drive home. I have to say it was worth getting up extra early, and driving for over 2 hours. Even if you didn't buy anything, just to get some decorating ideas was worth it.
I got to visit with Heather Bullard. If you haven't been to her blog or website, you should check it out. I saw a few other flea market friends as well.
I bought a couple of fun things I will show soon on a future post. I'm waiting til after the flea market tomorrow.
This show happens in April and October. You might remember me talking about it last fall. Anyway, I have to go and rest up, as it's another early morning tomorrow.

Celebrate Your Day!

Hi all, can you believe it, the weekend is upon us again. Great!!
I'm celebrating my day with random shots around the house. I finished a lampshade I was working on. It's going to Sticks N Stones!! Now I'm working on a smaller one today. My main job today is cleaning the house, so I thought I might as well be in a good frame of mind for that, and just celebrate my day.

Baby Jake turned 7 months yesterday. Time does fly when you are having fun!
Just think, in a few short months I will be making him a party hat!!

I Spy A Wedding

Hi all! Hope you had a lovely weekend.
I attended a wedding on Saturday. This was the wedding of my good friend and walking buddy Joan's son Dylan. The bride and groom looked beautiful and so happy!!
The weather was perfect and the surroundings were amazing.
I was lucky enough to be able to help out with some of the preparations, ideas, and decorations. It was a travel themed wedding, as the bride and groom share a love of travel. I made the escort cards to resemble little post cards (Click to enlarge photo) I decorated an old overnight case as part of the decor. I did another case to hold the cards and envelopes. I did a large vintage postcard for the table numbers. It turned out exactly like they wanted, which made me happy. I was happy to help.

It was a lot of fun, but now my friend and I can get back to our regular routine of walking in the mornings, and not worry about the wedding prep. The kids are on their Honeymoon in Jamaica.
The song that you hear playing right now was the song they danced to for their first dance. One of my favorites!!

It's My Party Hat!

Hi all, and Happy Thursday!
These fun party hats and crowns are leaving my house tomorrow, and are headed to the Cupcakery Bakery and Boutique! Thought you might like to see them before they fly out of here to someones birthday party. They are quite colorful, and were fun to make. Here is the problem, every time I make new crowns and hats, it's hard for me to let them go. I get attached to them (Literally with glue)Ha ha! But seriously I want them to always find a good home. Could you imagine if I kept them all? Bad idea!
That is my rambling for today. (Must be the hair color I had done today)

Random Shots That Require French Music

Hi all!
So it's cold and dreary for April, and last night we had a big rainstorm.
This afternoon I started snapping away, then decided this post needed French music. I guess it's my silly mood today. Must be the weather.
I hope you are all having a nice Monday! A nice friend came by earlier and brought me these daffodils. That turns dreary into cheery!
In some of the photos you will see some little changes I have been making around the house. I like to move things around, add, and take away. I'm sure you do the same.
Sometimes I walk around looking for just the right spot. Then I place an item, and in the next few minutes decide that I don't really like it in the spot, so I move it again. It sounds crazy, but that's what I do.
I think it's fun!
This is going to be another busy week for me. A lot going on.

Weddings

Hi all, and happy Sunday.
I have been hold up all weekend in my studio working like crazy. I have a lot of stuff to show you and tell you about in a future blog post. It's a little secret.
More about that later.
This coming Saturday is the wedding of my good friend Joan's son. I have been helping her with a few wedding details. It is a travel theme wedding. I made a few of the decorations, escort cards, table numbers etc. I will try to get some photos at the wedding to show you what I'm talking about.
Anyway, this has got me thinking of wedding cake. Don't you just love watching those cake shows on TV? I really do. There is one called Amazing Wedding Cakes, The Cake Boss, and Ace of Cakes. I thought you might like these graphics I found in my little collection, plus this really cool photo of my grandparents on their wedding day in the 1920's. Just look at the detail on the dress and veil, amazing!
I also wanted to use this funny wedding song that I found for my blog. Listen to the words, it's cute.
We are having dreary weather here, and it's suppose to rain, just as long as it's clear by next Saturday for the wedding. Well, I'm getting ready to go over to my daughter Amanda's house for Sunday dinner. It's a fun thing we do every Sunday. She cooks for us, we get to play with baby Jake, and I do the dishes. It's a win, win!!

Unpredictable

Unpredictable art!
That's what I have been up to. You never know what you might come up with while creating. That makes it all the more fun. I have been working on different gutter screen and chicken wire crowns this week, as well as some party hats. While I work, I get more and more inspired to add different elements, and embellishments. I guess it is like a box of chocolates. This time I wanted a more junk look for the gutter screen crowns, and a more garden look for the chicken wire. As for the party hats, it's cupcakes, and a lot of pink and brown. Whatever it is, it's all fun!
I hope you are all having a good week. I can't believe it's almost Thursday.
I haven't been out of my little studio much. I have been going on my morning walks though, and the weather couldn't be better. Hope it's nice where you are too!
Now it's on the the glass glitter crowns.
